


Many schools seek accreditation through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. The entry-level certificate leads to professional certification that is an advanced license, continually valid as long as the teacher complete the required professional development hours within five years. After completion of the requirements, an applicant is issued an initial certificate that is valid for five years. The appropriate Content Specialty Test is required of those who teach core subjects. Passing the edPTA that measures teaching instructional practices and performance is required of all prospective teachers. Exams include the Educating All Students test that measures direct teacher knowledge and skills. As with all states, a Bachelor's degree, a teacher certification program, and content exams are required. The Office of Teaching Initiatives sets the stipulations to teach in New York.
